Cameron Potter – In Loving Memory

Cameron started dancing with Scissortail in 2014, and she and her husband quickly became staples of our dance community.  She began calling English Country Dance in 2016 along with Rebekah Valencia and Carla Wells.

Cameron had suffered through a few rounds of cancer treatments and was in poor health most of her country dancing career. Although her health limited her ability to call regularly, she embraced it as a way to connect with dancers even when she could no longer dance.  A former middle school teacher, she always had a well-planned, thoughtful walk-through and was clear with her instructions.  Some of her favorite dances were Duke of Kent’s Waltz, Lovely Nancy, and Ma Navu (an Israeli Folk Dance).  Every year for her birthday, she would invite local dancers to the Czech Hall in Yukon, Oklahoma, for a well-attended “Polka Birthday Bash.”

In 2019, Cameron suffered a return of cancer with several tumors in her brain and passed away, leaving her family and her dance community at a loss for words.  She is dearly missed as a friend, dancer, and caller.
